Protecting Sunland takes all of us. Whether you can contribute financially, share your experiences, or volunteer your time, every action strengthens our efforts to protect our community.
Donate Time or Money
Your support is making a difference. Donations have already helped MERC retain Channel Law Group and secure multiple expert reports and legal filings that are critical to our case. While we’ve made significant progress, additional filings and expert work are still ahead. We need to keep the momentum going.
You can support our efforts by:
Donate through GoFundMe (Tip: the platform “tip” slider can be adjusted.)
Send funds via Zelle to: merc-protectsunland
Send a check by mail to: McGroarty Environmental Review Coalition • 221 N Third St. #210 • Burbank, CA 91502
Every contribution, large or small, helps us continue the legal fight to protect Sunland. If you are unable to donate, your time is just as valuable, contact protectsunland@gmail.com to find out about volunteer opportunities.
NOTE: The Association is not a nonprofit or charitable organization, as such, donations are not tax dedutible.
Send a Letter to the City
One of the most effective ways to make your voice heard is by submitting a letter to City decision-makers explaining why you oppose the proposed development.
Share your concerns about issues such as:
Wildfire evacuation and public safety
Traffic and emergency access
Environmental impacts
Wildlife habitat
Flooding and drainage
Neighborhood character and quality of life
Feel free to also incorporate any other issues you feel passionate about including possible noise and air pollution, roadway construction, Quality of Life degradation of the McGroarty Corridor for outdoor use, runoff issues, hillside integrity issues, and any other issues you may have concerns.
Please email your letter to CPC@lacity.org and use the subject line: Opposition to Project at 8100-8160 W. McGroarty St. & 10000 N. McVine Terrace (VTT-73957-HCA-1A; DIR-2019-952-SPP-1A)
Personal letters carry far more weight than form letters. Tell your own story and explain why protecting Sunland matters to you. A sample letter is provided for reference. It outlines the issues brought up in our appeal justification letter.
Share Your Story
Have you experienced a wildfire, evacuation, flooding, mudslides, or witnessed wildlife in the McGroarty area?
We’re collecting firsthand accounts that may help demonstrate the real-world impacts of this proposed development.
Please include:
A description of your experience
Approximate dates and times, if known (this is helpful)
Photos or videos, if available
Wildlife sightings and where they occurred
Email your testimonials, photos, and videos to protectsunland@gmail.com
Attend the Hearing
Your presence matters. The Los Angeles City Planning Commission is scheduled to hear MERC’s appeal on Thursday, August 27 at Van Nuys City Hall.
Whether you choose to speak or simply attend in support of MERC, a strong community turnout sends a powerful message that Sunland residents care deeply about protecting their neighborhood.
Additional details, including the meeting time, agenda, parking information, and instructions for those wishing to speak, will be posted as they become available.
Volunteer
We need volunteers to help spread the word throughout the community.
A Neighborhood Flyer Walk is scheduled for Saturday, July 18.
If you’d like to participate (or help with future outreach efforts) please email protectsunland@gmail.com.
Together, we can continue building community support and help protect Sunland for generations to come.
