MERC has raised $5,000 to retain Channel Law Group and is now working to raise an additional $15,000 to support the current appeal before the Los Angeles City Planning Commission.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 in total for this phase of the effort. Every contribution helps MERC ensure that the City has the expert information and legal analysis necessary to fully consider the serious fire-safety, environmental, traffic, and community impacts of this project.

Funds are being used for the legal and expert work necessary to present MERC’s case, including attorney fees, engineering and environmental experts, technical reports, and the preparation and submission of formal appeals and supporting documents to the City as well as other necessary costs associated with the effort to ensure the development meets safety and legal requirements.

Yes. Community support has already helped fund critical early steps in the appeal process and in retaining an engineering expert.

If successful, the project could be paused, reevaluated, or potentially stopped altogether. At a minimum, it would require proper environmental and safety reviews before any development moves forward. It’s worth noting that a similar proposal was brought forward in 2016 and was stalled due to strong community pushback—demonstrating that collective action can make a real impact.
